THE STORY
Bringing The Arts Back Home
Co-founder, Namibia Donadio was raised in Hoboken, NJ after migrating from Panama at 7 years old. Her dream to be a performer was nourished by the free arts programs available in town. She remembers ALL of the kids participating in theater, chorus or band; which she attributes to the reason her generation had such close friendships. Last year, she ran into an old classmate who said that the programs they had growing up, were not around anymore for her own kids. In fact, most art related programs in Hoboken cost money, and are therefore inaccessible to families whose income does not allow them that expense. This summer, Namibia along with an incredible group of former classmates have been pooling resources bring the arts back home to the community that raised them. They recall the efforts of mentors like Paula Ohaus, Margo Singalese, Peter Ising, Mery Naddeo and administrators who brought life to these programs. They feel it is their time to step up and share make sure these programs are available for the next generation. They are leaning on the community to make the first year possible by asking for contributions in donations, time and funding.
